The Italian Aglianico grape is mostly known for it’s deep, dark, dense peppery-scented fruit most famously inspiring the creations of Taurasi of Campania and Aglianico del Vulture(pronounced Vul-tur-Ray) in Campania. It is also a much loved grape that was cultivated by the Phoenicians, exported by the Greeks, and consumed by the Romans. This particular grape has many stories dating back to the ancient Roman times, in fact it is considered the most popular grape with the highest consumer history of all time.
There are a few distinctions about the Aglianico that some wine connoisseurs may not be aware of; Aglianico grows especially well in hot climates and has been known to grow in Italian Volcanic Soil and this very fact that Tranquil Heart Owner, Bill, decided to grow and cultivate this grape here in Hemet Ca. This late ripening grape is superior in tannins and acidity to other red wine grapes, which in turn makes the wine produced from it age fantastically. It is our belief here at Tranquil heart that if you made a list of the top five red varieties in the world of wine, we believe Aglianico would be on that list with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Nebbiolo and Sangiovese.
It’s one of the most beautiful grapes of all, its fruit is firm and decisive, but sweet and bright. The bouquet is so broad, and its natural aromas include unique mineral nuances. It adapts well to oak and shows enormous potential for cellar aging.
For our members, we have our Classic style Aglianico wine.
Classic style, this is made in the traditional style of wine making, is a filtered inky dark wine produced and aged in a blend of American, French & European barrels with huge tannins and an incredible mouth feel. The wines speaks volumes with Notes of cherry, licorice, and hints of pepper & clove. It is a wonderfully paired with a wide variety of meats and cheeses, but is ideal with lamb, beef or wild game.
Our Agliniaco wine makes a bold statement in California wine making as there are very few vintners that are even aware of this varietal. We are very proud to have this outstanding wine available exclusively for our members. Remember, our wines will NEVER be available in the store.
