Barbera is a red Italian wine grape variety originally grown in North West Italy that produces good yields and is known for deep color, low tannins and high levels of

It is a popular grape most famously known for the Barbera De Asti, a red wine variety that is very well known in the region of northern Italy and in modern times is the third most planted grape in Italy. The grape itself can produce an acidic wine that has unique flavors which permeates through to delighten the senses with a bitter cherry flavor and hints of spicy notes. In order to combat this tendency of the grape to have low levels of tanins and higher acidic components, many Barbera varieties are put into oak barrels and aged between 2-4 years.
